Philippians 2:6-8Who, being in the very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death- even death on a cross!

So guess what!... Prayer isn't magical.  I get so excited when I remind myself of that... for most all of my life i've had this silly idea that prayer is magical.  I think it's because of that old cliche that says, "there is power in prayer."  Well- i hate to burst your buble but i don't think there is any power in prayer... that's right- i said it and i'll say it again... there is no power in prayer.  Here are my thoughts on this thing called prayer:

So prayer is most effictive when the person who is praying is humble... i mean face it- when does God really use us- it's certainly not when we're full of pride, not that he can't he just perfers us to be fully dependent on him.  and that is part of what prayer is... a recognization that we are in desperate need of God's work in our lives...

Second- prayer is just talking.  Ok- so I talk with my friends alot--- ok a ton!  I talk with my dad at least weekly... Prayer is like talking to a friend or my dad, but rather than a human being on the listening side- it is God who is infinately greater. So where is the power in talking?  oooo- you have lips that move and make noise or thoughts that are heard--- that is so powerful... No!  the power is not in the words that we humbly "send up" to God - the power is in God! Yeah- that's right, the cliche is wrong- the power is in God.  Kinda like the song goes, "There is power, power, wonder working power - in the precious blood of the Lamb..."  Wether for salvation or for life- the power isn't in the words "sent up" its in the blessings "sent down".

So, no prayer is not a magical thing that if you do so many prayers something great will happen like your great aunt fanny will pay for your school bill or that your missing shoe will appear under your bed... and no, you won't become some amazing Christian just because you pray it... God will provide for your school bill- goodness, he provided you a school didn't he?  you may be late for class on account of your missing shoe, but God has given you an opportunity to help you learn a lesson to put them away next time, and you will become an amazing Christian if you drop your pride and fall to your knees more often- not because of your state of prayer but because of your dependence on Him!!!

Just some thoughts- feel free to disagree i guess.

NYC- the good, bad, and ugly

So the Fine Arts class went to NYC for the day (saturday).... and yes it was good, bad and ugly.

The weather was rainy which meant my pants got wet around the bottom- and can i just say that is really annoying, specially for a girl who likes to sit with her feet under her- she can't do it very well b/c if she were to she'd end up looking like she wet her pants!!! anyway, that wasn't too bad but it didn't help the NYC vibe... ok to good now

Won tickets to see the show WICKED!!! SUPER AWESOME!  (by the way winning doesn't mean free- winning means 26.25 for front row seats (when normally they cost like 250-350... yeah good deal! is an understatement)  so if your scared that i saw a show called wicked don't be.  It is about the witches- oh no, this is not helping the case... the witches of oz (you know glinda the good witch of the north, and the wicked witch of the west (who's name is elphaba as you may not realize))  anyway, it's a story of the two meeting in school and growing up together.  Elphaba was born green- it has nothing to do with her being wicked- b/c she isn't wicked.... the leader of oz (the wizzard of oz) is wicked along with his side kick... they slandered elphaba's (the wicked witch of the west) name.  now... this is a very pathetic summary of the FANTASTIC broadway production... but there you have it it is not an evil show. i thoroughly enjoyed it!

ok the bad- getting confused and frusterated with the dirty, ugly, nasty subway station- i tell ya what- 4 indesisive lost girls are not the ones you want to be with for a day in NYC (i was one of the 4).... it made it not too fun when we went to china town or tried to find our way around the area... rather trying of the patience was the whole experience....

indifference: then we came back to time square area and had pax wholesome foods or something to that affect.... it was tastey- and not too cheap, but it was a time crunch (so i thought) and good so i'm not complaining... then when we started heading for the ballet, i stopped at my first starbucks and ordered- you guessed it hot coco!  the kids size to save money!  it was pretty good... nothing fantastic about it, but whatever.

Good again!- the ballet... it was quite enjoyable... very lovely theater/ performance hall idk what ya call it but it was pretty... and then the ballet was AMAZING!!! the beauty of the dances and the tallent and strength to do so was amazing... and then to stay in line with the music was very cool... and the music- that too was amazing- simply beautiful! i highly recomend the ballet- as cheesey as it may sound... to anyone...

bad and good: the way home i felt as tho i were with junior highers perhaps--- some of the conversation was utterly stupid and annoying... silence would have been smarter than the things that came out of thier mouths sometimes... silence often is more profound than most of what we as depraved humans say.  it's true but in those moments i noticed it more than i had in many moments prior... good part: when i eventually slept- i slept so soundly that i didn't even realize i was sleeping until i woke up... i enjoyed that very much

overall my thoughts are that i would much rather go to and live in  DC than NYC... DC is not that dreary nor can i imagine i would be even on a rainy day... DC also has free enjoyments, an easier subway system, a nicer subway system... and altho sadly it is less diverse and isn't known for fantastic plays, broadways, opera's, or ballets... it has beautiful parks and places to go- i don't know if that all made since- but whatever it's my xanga page and i don't care... perhaps no one will read it anyway =)
